A small lilac or pink toadstool smelling of radish. The toadstool is quite variable and a number of colour varieties have been described, some of which are often treated as species. It is poisonous containing ’Muscarine’, the chemical originally thought to be the poisonous principle in Amanita muscaria. The species is very common throughout the British Isles in all types of woodland especially Fagus and is occasionally found in grassland.
