Keys to subfamilies, genera and species of these often rather beautiful microscopic keratinophilic fungi which are found on decaying feathers, hair etc, of dead animals, in pellets of birds of prey and in dung.

The enthusiast is warned that these fungi can spread to hair and fingernails and also cause skin, lung and other infections of animals and man: handle with gloves and avoid breathing spores or fragments.
