Review (by Malcolm Storey)

Slapton Ley is one of the richest mycological sites in Britain and one of the best studied in the world. Reports the disappointing missed opportunity of including the mycological interest in the renotification of the SSSI. The new management principles include accepting the inevitable eventual loss of most of the site due to erosion.

In the light of increasing conservation interest in orchards, English Nature has commissioned a biodiversity survey. Mycological interest includes Sarcodontia crocea which is illustrated from Surrey.

Recent EN Reports include Waxcap Grasslands (no 555), Marsh Honey Fungus (no 540) Hazel Gloves (no 541) and Tooth Fungi (No 557). Next to appear will be Beech Woodland Indicators (no 597).
