Review (by Malcolm Storey)

Discusses the loss of the early bumblebee species over much of Britain.

Proposes an ecological classification into three groups:

Group 1 (Garden/woodland edge species)
Group 2 (Open-ground species associated with flower rich grasslands)
Group 3 (Social parasites).
Group 1 are frequent in gardens, but Group 2 are restricted to large areas of floristically rich grassland and have all declined to varying extents. Group 3 are widespread.
