Review (by Malcolm Storey)

A popular (if one can use the term in the same sentence as "spiders"!) guide to spiders and harvestmen. The book contains the largest printed range of photographs of living spiders; other books on UK spiders use paintings of specimens in alcohol.

There is no key, but the "Illustrated Guide to Spider Families" uses body form, face and eyes, and web to identify the family.

The photos are good for their tme but many suffer from the quality of 1980’s photography and printing, which particualrly affected dark hairy subjects like spiders. Most species have a single illustration the sex of which varies, so this can be confusing in species where the sexes look dissimilar.
