Review (by Malcolm Storey)

A photographic guide to larger fungi "covering all the most important species" (whatever that means!) The species descriptions are arranged two to a page with excellent photographs opposite.

The top left corner of the righthand (photographs) pages is colour-coded for the group of fungi: gill fungi, decurrent gills (this means strongly decurrent), boletes, bracket, fairy and coral, puff-balls, phalloids, jelly fungi, and cups and morels. The "gill fungi" section is nearly twice the size of the other sections put together and this would have worked better if it could have been broken down, eg by with volva, with ring, or spore colour.

The cover claims 326 colour photographs, but I make it over 580 illustrating 528 species, mostly agarics or boleti.
