Review (by Malcolm Storey)

A guide to these very difficult lichens.

The introductory section is followed by keys to genera and species. A useful table at the end arranges the Verrucaria species by spore size.

The guide was downloadable from the old BLS website, but apparently not from the new one (although the entry on the publications page claims that it is!).

Examine Compound Microscope
Identification difficultyCareful microscopic examination of perithecial structure required - not easy when they are embedded in limestone!
