Review (by Malcolm Storey)

Avery useful, if rather densely printed guide to coastal lichens. The author offers three means of identification:

1. By comparison with the 96 colour photographs of common species reproduced on 6 plates at the front of the guide. Most of the photographs have been re-used from "Guide to Rocky Shore Lichens" by the same author, but there are two plates of new ones covering Species on Calcareous Rocks, and Coastal Lichens.
2. Tabulation of the above 96 common species by growth form with additional characters to confirm the identification from the photographs.
3. A proper key to the more than 400 species found in this habitat.

Examine with x15 or x20 hand lens ( Compound Microscope is also useful)
