Review (by Malcolm Storey)

A compendium of information on the collection and preservation of arthropod specimens.

The first part of the book is a detailed account of collecting and curatorial techniques.

The second part covers classification with keys to classes and orders, with brief descriptions of each.

A 50 page glossary follows.

The first two appendices give formulae for making up preservation fluids (AGA, Barber’s, Embalming(!), Essig’s Aphid, Hoyer’s and KAA), and giuidelines for mounting small soft-bodied specimens (aphids etc, thrips and mites). The remaining two appendices concern SEL’s identification service in the US.
