| Review (by Malcolm Storey) | The notorious Schäffer Test for distinguishing the two groups of Agaricus consists of concentrated nitric acid and aniline applied to the cap as intersecting streaks. But the test is little-used since nobody wants to carry concentrated nitric acid in their foray kit! Glacial acetic acid is apparently a satisfactory replacement for the concentrated nitric acid. The modified test was originally published by Peterson et al (2000) |
