| Errata, Corrigenda & Comments | Their suggestion that the original hormones were messengers reporting back on external conditions seems unlikely. They were more likely functional chemicals, eg cell wall components or precursors, which signalled some event such as growth, reproduction or damage, providing a band-wagon for other processes to latch onto. |
