| Review (by Malcolm Storey) | A guide to the second half of the chalky-shelled species. |

| Specimen Preparation | Specimens can be cleaned of surface debris, using a fine paint brush or ideally in an ultrasonic cleaner, and then examined immersed by transmitted light. Wet specimens fixed in 4% seawater formalin and preserved in 70%c alcohol. Avoid formalin as this will eventually dissolve the chalky structures. But critical examination required the dried calcareous skeleton: clean fory 3 hours in weak domestic bleach, wash well in freshwater, ideally followed by 10 minutes in an ultrasonic cleaner. The cleaned shell may be dried and mounted on black card. |
