Review (by Malcolm Storey)

An excellent guide to this large and very difficult genus. On the whole, the keys work well and the descriptions contain enough information to confiirm an identification with a reasonable degree of confidence.

The colour plates feature species which are not illustrated elsewhere and, in particular, complement those in Brandrud et al’s Cortinarius: Flora Photographica.

The book covers the majority of species found in our area, although many from the rich Cortinarius mycota of Beech woodland in the south of England have only brief descriptions.
