A rust fungus forming aecia (cluster cups) on Urtica, and forming uredia and telia on various species of Carex. There are a number of closely-similar varieties which are restricted to different hosts. It is most often seen as the cluster cups which are very common on Nettle, especially near water. Early records may be included under P. caricina from which it has only recently been separated.
